Of course with Upillar.com, you may just fill in all the information as it is asked, but we are here to show you how to get the most out of your money. Wait you didn't pay anything! So here we go. Getting Started

Once you select your vehicle make, model, and year, enter into the description box everything you ever wanted someone to know about your specific item. You must be very specific. The more specific you are, the more likely you are to succeed. Make sure you also put in the description box any and all upgrades you have done to your car. You will be able to choose available factory and aftermarket upgrades from NADAguides list later in the process, but it is important that the all users can read your emotional tie to that item.

Contact Details

When filling in your contact details, remember this simple rule, as used by the professionals: you may only get one chance to make the sale. That means the more difficult it is for a customer to contact you, the less likely they'll keep trying, so give them as many contact number as you feel comfortable with.


  1. Use your mobile number or a number that you can be reached at. It is very important to allow the buyer to reach you easily. Try not to use a number where someone else will be answering the phone. Example a work number.
  2. Email: We won't publish your email address because it's too easy to get 'spammed' if we publish it. Price

You know how much you want from your car, but do you know how realistic that price really is? That is why we have teamed up with NADAguides. Automatically you will see the value of your vehicle in the listing process and allow you to enter your own price based upon those price suggestions. If your price is lower than the NADAguides recommended value, your car will show up as an "Equity Item". This shows users that your item is a better deal than the other items listed.

Category

Your car will already be in a pre-set category designed to make it as easy as possible for customers to find, but you also have the opportunity to nominate up to two other categories that suit your car. For example, you might nominate your car as a coupe and as a sport car. But select the category that pertains to your item. People will be mad when they see an SUV in a sports car category.


Photos

This may very well be the single most important thing you can do to increase your chances of success. The professional car dealers who use our website have found that ads with just one photo of the specific car are almost 20 times more likely to get interest from a buyer than ads with no photos! It makes sense, as a buyer wouldn't you want to see a photo before investing more time in following up? So if you have a digital camera, use it. If not, consider sending us your photos via mail, and we will gladly post them for you. Here are some tips on photo taking. Thanks Mom for the advice!


  1. Make sure the sun is behind you and usually take the photos from the side. They look nicer when you can see the details of the item you are listing.
  2. Don't bother shooting on the highest quality camera that you have. The smaller the file the better. We will compress your photos anyways, so make sure you choose the best pictures, and be patient when uploading them. It will take time to upload them to our site.
  3. You can use a scanner to scan a printed photo of your car too. These can be just as good as a digital shot, but remember to crop the pic and save it in the right size and resolution.
  4. JPEG and GIF are the only types of files allowed to be uploaded. These are the formats used by digital cameras anyway, and any graphics editing package should allow you to save any graphic file in one or both of these formats.


Finishing Your Advertisement

Once you have uploaded all the photos, you will be taken to a preview page. If you need to edit anything, please click the edit button. Once a listing is fully submitted, you will be required to call us to make any changes to the item. You will not be charged if you pick our free services. It will show up as $0 charge. If you choose our homepage ad, you will be charged $99.00 but the response by the public to your ad will be much higher as more people will see your ad.


Editing Your Advertisement

At a later date, you might discover you've made an error in your ad. Don't worry, just click edit next to details in your "myupillar" account.


Finding Your Advertisement

After you have created your advertisement and you have received an email confirming your ad has been approved and uploaded to the site, you may want to search for your vehicle.

Please note that if may take up to 24 hours for your item to appear in search results.

The quickest and easiest way to locate your advertisement is to follow these simple search options on the Upillar.com homepage. Just enter your id number and hit search or search by the categories available. You may also find it in your "MyUpillar" page.


Checklist for creating a listing


  1. Thanks to NADAguides, all options in your vehicle are automatically shown just by picking the make, model and year of your vehicle. You may want to have your original sticker with you to check the correct boxes, but if one can not be found, check the boxes you know are included in your vehicle. To better prevent false listings, a VIN # is required.
  2. Make a list of the selling points for your vehicle. Pick the best features, safety items, upgrades, or warrantees that are included with the vehicle. Keep the listing real and honest. You will find out that many people are turned away from "too good to be true" listings.
  3. Photos of your vehicle will dramatically increase the chance of selling. Although not required, we highly recommend adding photos to your listing. If you do not have a digital camera, or a way to connect it to the internet, please send a picture to our staff and they will be more than happy to assist you in posting your picture at no additional charge. You may take just about any kind of camera to the nearest photo lab and they will be able to transfer the pictures to a cd, or memory disk. Just send that to our office with your listing number, and we will get your listing updated right away.
  4. Visa, Master Card, AMEX, or Discover are all accepted on our site. Check your credit card statements for discount certificates that will be in promotion throughout the year.
